Adidas, BAPE Release Limited Edition of Sneakers with Digital Twins

Adidas Originals, the renowned German athletic apparel company, has joined forces with the Japanese streetwear brand BAPE to produce a highly-coveted sneaker collaboration.

Adidas and BAPE will release a limited-edition Triple-White Forum 84 BAPE Low sneaker collaboration and a unique “digital twin” NFT version.

With the backing of the Adidas /// Studio (Three Stripes Studio), a new auction involving redeemable NFTs through the Adidas Collect platform is set to occur. Adidas has been involved in various NFT projects, but this will be the first time the company will utilize an auction format for an NFT-focused drop.

Only 100 Ethereum NFTs will be made available, each of which can be exchanged for one of 100 corresponding pairs of sneakers.

The sneakers boast BAPE’s signature shooting star motif on the lateral upper, complemented by the “A Bathing Ape” logo embossed in stunning metallic silver foil. Unlike prior camo versions, the white colorway is integrated into a captivating narrative centered around a pristine laundrette nestled in an enigmatic desert.

Each pair of these sneakers has an NFC chip, thoughtfully placed in the left tongue. Scanning this chip with a smartphone grants the owner access to its NFT-based certificate of authenticity.

After redeeming their access pass NFT for the physical shoes, owners will also be given an Ethereum NFT as their “digital twin”. This NFT will be “interoperable” with Adidas’s ALTS avatar project, meaning that owners can also wear their shoes in the metaverse. Adidas has hinted that those holding its 19,500 tokens will be able to exchange them for functional avatars.

The Adidas Originals x BAPE “Fresh Forum” access pass NFT auction is scheduled to commence on August 22 and will be open for a duration of 72 hours until August 25.

The fortunate 100 individuals who emerged as victorious bidders in the Adidas Originals x BAPE NFT auction may exercise their option to exchange their tokens for the tangible sneakers and digital counterparts commencing on September 26, facilitated by Adidas Collect. The shipping process is scheduled to commence in October.
