Lufthansa Launches NFT-Based Loyalty Program on Polygon
Lufthansa
The parent company of a major airline, Lufthansa Group, has introduced an NFT-based loyalty program on Polygon.
This program rewards passengers with digital collectibles that can unlock additional benefits. The Uptrip loyalty program is available to all airlines within the group, such as Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, and Swiss International Air Lines. Passengers can collect digital trading cards when they fly with any of these airlines.
The Uptrip app offers themed cards that are based on various destinations, aircraft used by different airlines, and specific holidays.
Users can collect these cards to unlock special perks such as free in-flight Wi-Fi, access to airport lounges, redeemable airline miles, and more. By completing certain themed collections, users can earn these perks. Uptrip also plans to introduce a trading feature that will allow users to fill in any gaps in their collections.
Uptrip is a product of the Lufthansa Innovation Group and operates on Polygon, a scaling network powered by Ethereum. The company has revealed that Uptrip went through a soft launch and was tested with over 20,000 users who amassed more than 200,000 digital trading cards.
Lufthansa Group’s traditional Miles and More loyalty program already has approximately 36 million members. Polygon, which offers quicker and more cost-effective transactions than Ethereum’s mainnet, has gained popularity with major brands such as Starbucks, Nike, McDonald’s, Reddit, and Coca-Cola, who are all working on their own projects.
Polygon stands third in terms of NFT sales volume. However, as seen in the chart, the network exhibits the greatest count of buyers. This trend could receive an additional boost due to the recent endeavor by Lufthansa. Notably, Starbucks has launched an NFT-based loyalty program.
