NFTs Worth $2.27 Mln Stolen in June, Lowest Monthly Figure in 2023

A recent report found that half of the stolen NFTs are being sold within 160 minutes on different NFT marketplaces such as Blur and OpenSea.
PeckShield, a leading blockchain security company, issued a report on the stolen NFTs in June this year, clarifying the value stolen in the month, how long it takes for stolen NFTs to be sold, and which NFT marketplaces are used to sell the stolen assets, according to Cointelegraph.
In June, NFTs worth about $2.27 were stolen, with a decline of 23% compared to the previous month ($2.95 million). Half of the stolen NFTs were sold within 2.4 hrs on marketplaces like Blur and OpenSea.
“In June 2023, ~$2.27M worth of #NFTs were stolen, marking a 23% decrease compared to the previous month. Within a span of 160 minutes, half of the stolen NFTs were promptly sold on various marketplaces,” PeckShield said.
It is worth noting that the stolen NFTs in June is the lowest monthly figure of the year so far. February was the highest monthly figure as NFTs worth $16.2 million was stolen
Surprisingly, 99.7% of the stolen NFTs were sold on marketplaces of Blur and OpenSea, 86% of the stolen NFTs were sold on Blur only, and 13.76% were sold on OpenSea.
It is worth mentioning that the total amount of cryptocurrency lost due to hacks, scams, and rug pulls amounted to $656 million in the first half of 2023, a new report by blockchain security company Beosin said.
According to Cointelegraph, the $656 million includes $471.43 million lost in 108 protocol attacks, an additional $108 million in various phishing scams and $75.87 million over 110 rug pulls.
