Zynga Announces 1st Ethereum NFT Game, Sugartown

Zynga, a well-known game publisher, has recently announced that their upcoming game, Sugartown, will incorporate Ethereum NFTs.

The game’s premise involves three farm animals who have opened a portal to another dimension, allowing creatures known as Oras to enter and create an exciting, gamified world within the game. Sugartown will be playable exclusively via web browsers and is set to be released at a later date.

The upcoming gaming experience will utilize NFTs based on Ethereum blockchain technology. These NFTs will transport players into an alternate dimension and allow them to encounter unique creatures known as Oras.

Later this year, Zynga plans to release 10,000 Ora NFTs, allowing players to access the Sugartown experience and its free-to-play minigames. Additionally, these NFTs can be locked up or “staked” to earn Sugar, an in-game currency. Players will need to obtain one of these highly sought-after NFTs to participate in the game.

In this regard, Zynga Vice President of Web3 Gaming Matt Wolf said: “Our ambition is to empower players through a sustainable Web3 platform full of fun and enduring games. We created Sugartown to appeal to a native Web3 market. Still, with the ambition of scaling much wider over time while we build a passionate and engaged community of holders, we hope will enjoy this experience as much as we loved bringing it to life.

Founded in 2007, Zynga gained a significant following in the industry in 2009 with the successful release of casual games such as FarmVille and Words with Friends.

In late 2021, the company revealed its plans to develop blockchain-based games but has not disclosed many specifics on the project since early 2022. Zynga was acquired by Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto, for $12.7 billion last year. Both companies have expressed their intention to collaborate on future blockchain games.
