In a move to limit the environmental cost of traveling, the European Space Agency (ESA) developed a virtual environment to enable its staff to attend discussions at the UN climate conference, COP27, held in Egypt&#8217;s Sharm El-Sheikh.



Connected to the Internet and satellite 5G, hundreds of ESA staff created their avatars in the virtual world and accessed the metaverse via their laptops or smartphones or by wearing virtual reality headsets, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.esa.int/Applications/Telecommunications_Integrated_Applications/ESA_experiences_COP27_using_a_space-empowered_metaverse" target="_blank">ESA said in a statement</a> on Tuesday. 



Located at the agency’s European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications in the UK, engineers at ESA’s 5G/6G Hub connected the staff to the metaverse using futuristic technologies.

The staff tackled topics related to climate change crisis, space, green transition, and sustainable 6G connectivity.



ESA&#8217;s move comes within its framework to enhance European leadership in the development and deployment of metaverse technology.



A metaverse is a network of three-dimensional virtual environments focusing on social interaction. It may be characterized as a digitally simulated world. It utilizes blockchain, augmented reality, and virtual reality (VR), combined with social media principles, to develop venues for extensive user communication that imitate the real world.



The metaverse is an encompassing word for technologies that aid in creating a whole digital world similar to the real one. This universe can be incredibly comprehensive and encompass a broad range of various planets, sometimes referred to as virtual environments.

ESA’s Staff Take Part in COP27 via Metaverse

Everdome, an interplanetary metaverse project, announced that it would launch its first rocket in the metaverse to Mars on November 30.



Everdome Phoenix, set to be launched from Hatta Spaceport in the UAE, is a spaceship design inspired by imaginable and viable technologies, created in cooperation with the project’s space scientist partners. The spaceship will carry Tier-1 Evernauts, who are the first supporters of Everdome.



Everdome Phoenix will dock at Everdome Cycler in Earth’s lower orbit, a 3km long interplanetary vessel, which will witness the crossing of the first interplanetary metaverse community to their new settlement on Mars.



The Evernauts will arrive in Everdome’s city on Mars, located in Jezero Crater. They will enjoy multiple stories and experiences, including adventure, entertainment, learning, and trading in this ultra-realistic virtual space.



<a href="https://everdome.io/news/announcing-our-rocket-launch-countdown" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">In a statement</a>, the Dubai-based project said the rocket launch represents a milestone in the development of the metaverse, noting it is proof that the metaverse experience has a hyper-realistic style and could be breathtaking in execution.



&#8220;This launch is the fruit of many months of ideation, development, and design, and we are truly excited to be taking with you these first small steps for mankind into an interplanetary immerse metaverse future,&#8221; the Dubai-based company said in a statement.



The captivating launch will be streamed live on Youtube for the audience to see the real potential of the metaverse gathering both web2 and web3 audiences.
